I was recommended to use Outside Lane and the service offered, plus the fact that I could refuse the vehicle and had the right to have my money back if it did not meet my exact requirements gave me the confidence to buy through the company.

Used car buying can be a major hassle for consumers and businesses, which is why Outside Lane has appointed ‘personal shoppers’ to locate vehicles that meet clients’ exact specifications with significant savings when compared with prices at dealers and car supermarkets.
Outside Lane is an internet-based vehicle sourcing business with a car buying team that has more than 20 years experience and has purchased more than £900 million worth of vehicles to order.
An increasing number of car buyers are expected to source vehicles online in the future with Britain’s leading web management company for the automotive sector, GForces, predicting that 20% of all UK car sales will be conducted online within five years.
But, Outside Lane says that many car buyers are already reaping the benefits of internet buying having read online reviews of models, located a trusted outlet to source a car at the best price and then been happy to conduct a secure financial transaction over the internet, just as many people currently do with other financial products and holidays.
Steve Myers, managing director of the independent car buying service, said: “A ‘personal shopper’ will be appointed to search the country and locate each prospective client’s required used vehicle to their exact specification and budget.
“We will then inspect, appraise, acquire, prepare the vehicle to showroom condition, deliver and then personally handover the vehicle to the customer at their location of choice. Choice and price are typically among the key issues for car buyers and Outside Lane delivers on both counts.”
Mr Myers added: “The majority of the cars purchased on behalf of clients are at trade prices. We then pass the savings on to our customers, which can be as much as £2,000. As we charge a flat fee of £850 + VAT on vehicles up to £20,000, clients are still saving up to about £1,000. Our fees on vehicles costing more than £20,000 are make and model specific and are individually negotiated with buyers.”
Typical savings that clients can currently expect to make by acquiring a vehicle through Outside Lane are:
BMW 3 Series - saving to supermarket = £642, saving to approved dealer = £1,859
BMW X5 - saving to supermarket = £728, saving to approved dealer = £1,440
VW Polo - saving to supermarket = £79, saving to approved dealer = £475
Ford Focus - saving to supermarket = £209, saving to approved dealer = £1,355
Average saving - saving to supermarket = £415, saving to approved dealer = £1,282
Outside Lane clients include senior business executives, professional sportsmen and women, city bankers, business owners as well as private individuals. Outside Lane also purchases fleets of cars on behalf of businesses.
Ex-England rugby union international and 2003 World Cup winner turned ice skater Kyran Bracken, who won ITV’s Dancing on Ice show, said: “I don’t have the time or inclination to visit dealerships, but it is vital that I have a vehicle to suit my lifestyle.
“I was recommended to use Outside Lane and the service offered, plus the fact that I could refuse the vehicle and had the right to have my money back if it did not meet my exact requirements gave me the confidence to buy through the company. It is a path I would recommend to other car buyers.”
Keith Englebright, fleet manager of Essex-based PMS International PLC, has acquired a small fleet of 10 vehicles through Outside Lane. He said: “Having a smart fleet of vehicles is important to the image of my business. The nearly-new cars we purchased through Outside Lane were more cost-effective for the company than buying new. The fact that the vehicles were professionally sourced and delivered to the business meant I was able to focus all my energies on my job and not be distracted by having to visit numerous dealerships.”
Mr Myers concluded: “The business and personal pressures on many of our typical customers means they are increasingly time poor. With no up-front finder’s fee and built-in customer satisfaction guarantees we believe that the method of internet buying that we are providing is cost-effective and takes the hassle out of what can be a huge chore with none of the risk associated with a private sale.”
Outside Lane was launched in October 2009 and sources the majority of vehicles from dealers, private sellers and auctions.
Operating 24x7, 364 days a year, prospects can contact Outside Lane through its call centre (0845 519 2584) or website (http://www.outsidelane.co.uk).
A ‘personal shopper’ is appointed to source a vehicle meeting a customer’s exact specification and budget. Available vehicles are placed in a customer’s internet ‘shopping basket’ for them to view before placing their order. Outside Lane operates a no sale, no fee policy and carries out 146 different vehicle checks before conducting a personal handover at the customer’s location of choice.
