"The entrepreneurial community is in the middle of a transformation, as start-ups are being created at an accelerated pace. At Trinity, I believe we can help entrepreneurs navigate and lead this change,” said James Cham.

Trinity Ventures, a premier investor in early-stage information technology companies, announced today that James Cham and Karan Mehandru have joined the firm as Principals. James, previously at Bessemer Ventures, will continue to focus on consumer services, specifically ecommerce, social marketing and digital media. Karan, previously at Scale Ventures, will focus on enterprise software and systems and next generation datacenter infrastructure technologies.

Fred Wang General Partner at Trinity Ventures said, “We are excited to have both James and Karan joining Trinity. Both are very talented and important additions to our investment team. With Trinity’s 13 new investments in the last 12 months and three exits this year, we believe that the venture model can work and is working here at Trinity Ventures. These two additions to our team will help us further extend our success.”

James brings to Trinity Ventures over five years of investing experience in the consumer services and digital media space. Karan joins Trinity Ventures with more than 10 years of operating and investing experience in enterprise software and systems, SaaS and next generation datacenter infrastructure technologies.

“I was lucky enough to work together with Trinity on three companies before joining. So I've had a chance to see first hand how their respect for and commitment to the entrepreneur makes them different from other investors," said James Cham. "The entrepreneurial community is in the middle of a transformation, as start-ups are being created at an accelerated pace. At Trinity, I believe we can help entrepreneurs navigate and lead this change.”

Karan said, “Trinity has consistently backed winning companies for over two decades. Having met some of Trinity’s portfolio CEOs, I know that each one of them would come back to partner with Trinity Ventures in their next venture. This is a testament to Trinity’s team and focus on the Entrepreneur – I wanted to be part of a culture that promotes collaboration and rewards performance.”

Trinity Ventures raised its $310 million Trinity X Fund in April of 2009, and has already made 16 new investments from that fund. For more information contact Fred Wang or Larry Orr at 650-854-9500, or refer to Trinity’s website at http://www.trinityventures.com
