Moms, dads, grandparents and caregivers, have you ever wondered if your child's car seat has been correctly installed? Addison Auto Repair & Body Shop is a Certified Child Safety Seat Fit Station helping you to install and learn the use of best practices for maximum safety.

Addison Auto Repair & Body Shop joined the National Child Passenger Safety Program by adding two Certified Technicians to their staff. This endeavor is a community service done by appointment.

It’s a fact; in Colorado more than 80% of the child safety seats inspected by CPS Team Colorado were improperly installed. Used properly, child safety seats and seat belts prevent injuries and save lives. Common questions asked by parents, grandparents and guardians are:

  •     What is the safest placement for the car seat(s)?
  •     How should I install multiple car seats?
  •     Should I use lap/shoulder belt or latch installation?
  •     Where do I attach the tether strap?
  •     Is the car seat installed tight enough?
  •     Where do I go for car seat recall information?

Jim Addison said, “Each car and each safety seat is different. By using the instructions in the vehicles owner’s manual and the car seat manual you can usually decide the safest method for the installation, however, an installation isn’t always straight forward. Newer cars are equipped with helpful options but older vehicles present more challenges.”

Brenda Addison said, “Unfortunately many fire stations are no longer performing this public service. An auto body shop is a likely place to have a Child Passenger Safety Fit Station. We see many families removing and replacing car seats in and out of rentals and their own vehicles. It’s been a labor of love to be able to help parents, grandparents and caregivers gain confidence by learning the safest method of installation.”
