Contrary to National Reports, CheckPoint HR Cites Employment in Tri-State Area Remained Neutral in August

CheckPoint HR Reports on August Employment Data

“Our sampling of data is a good indicator for the health of businesses in the New Jersey, New York, and Connecticut areas,” said Neil Friedman, CFO, CheckPoint HR.

CheckPoint HR, the trusted ally in web-based Human Resources management for small to mid-sized companies, today reports that during the month of August employment did not decline but remained stagnant in the Tri-State area as compared to national reports of private sector jobs declining by 10,000.

The Bureau of Labor and Statistics reported that nonfarm payrolls declined by 54,000 in August and the unemployment rate rose to 9.6 percent. According to CheckPoint HR’s data, which is polled from more than 400 customers in the Tri-State area, employment was not as significantly affected as those in other parts of the United States.

“Our sampling of data is a good indicator for the health of businesses in the New Jersey, New York, and Connecticut areas,” said Neil Friedman, CFO, CheckPoint HR. “While reports indicate employment was down across the nation, our data suggests that Tri-State area small to medium sized enterprises were less affected. This is significant as it suggests area businesses are doing better than their counterparts in other locations of the country.”

As compared to August 2009 where CheckPoint HR saw a 2% decline in employment, this past August was much improved. Looking to the next few months, CheckPoint HR forecasts that there will be employment gains for the Tri-State area in the September/October timeframe based on early indicators on job posting activity. “While we did see increases in that time period in 2009 we expect 2010 results to outpace the prior year,” added Friedman.
