Staten Islander Roy Mackey is thanking his lucky stars that he purchased a custom designed diamond engagement ring for his girlfriend Caitlin Griffin at Casale Jewelers, after the specialty jewelry store replaced a ring lost in a Disney World lake at no cost to the prospective groom.

Roy purchased the stunning ring in mid July with plans to propose to Caitlin in Florida at Disney World in late August. With ring in pocket, Caitlin and Roy were sitting on a bridge at Disney World. Preparing to pop the question, Roy pulled the ring box out of his pocket and opened it slowly when Caitlin had looked away. At that point the once in a lifetime moment took a turn for the worst. The ring dropped out of the box, bounced on to the bridge and landed directly into the lake underneath them.

Roy became understandably flustered. Caitlin was confused she had never seen the ring, but Roy told her what had happened. The shaken couple could not get to the lake themselves and quickly contacted the Orlando Police Department who did a search of the lake but came up empty handed. The next day, the Orlando police had scuba divers search through the lake but still nothing.

Roy called Cory Schifter, owner of Casale Jewelers to share the bad news. Cory quickly reminded Roy that one of the benefits of purchasing a diamond engagement ring from Casale is the complimentary year of insurance against loss, theft or damage.

Cory shared, “At Casale, an engagement ring purchase is the start of a relationship between us and our customers. This is an important time for them and we want to give them the added security of insurance before they walk out the door. I will be honest, this is our first insurance claim and the first time I ever heard a story like this but I felt confident we could make this right."

Cory worked with Roy to get the police report information and worked with the insurance company to get the claim filed. A little over a week later, Roy received a new diamond engagement ring at no cost. Cory reports, “When Roy came to the store and told us how Caitlin never got to see the ring, it was sad to hear that she never said yes because the moment was ruined. He wanted the second 'ask' to be special so they decided to wait and see what happened with the insurance claim first. Once the insurance company gave the go ahead, we had the new diamond set in the same engagement ring setting that we originally designed for him. We were able to have everything for him within just two days. We were so happy to see him smile when he came in to pick up the ring.”

Roy proposed Saturday, September 4th and Caitlin finally got to say yes.
