In his fourth book, Frontier Preacher, author Sam Hossler tells the life story of a unique character from 18th century American history, Rev. John Corbly. The author weaves this frontier preacher's preacher's true life story together with fictional characterizations from his own vivid imagination to create a book that is sure to entertain, educate and inspire.
This is a fast-paced, easy, entertaining book to read and will be enjoyed by history buffs of all ages.
Once in America, the young Irish boy Corbly is indentured to a Christian family where he learns farming. He eventually becomes a lay preacher and evangelist. Persecuted for his beliefs, he moves his family to the wilds of frontier Pennsylvania.
There he finds only pain and suffering as crops fail, there is no money, and Indian raids wipe out whole communities in a matter of minutes. Yet the fledgling government has little respect for these rugged frontiersmen. The bureaucrats think this remote province across the mountains is good for only one thing: collecting taxes that these poor, unfortunate frontier families are not able to pay. [Does that sound familiar? There are certainly lessons from the history in this book that we should all be aware of today.] Yet through it all the indefatigable Rev. Corbly never loses faith, establishes many churches throughout Pennsylvania, and continues to evangelize until his dying breath.
“I have read two of Sam’s previous fascinating novels. I’m reading Frontier Preacher now. It’s difficult to put it down and get any work done. Sam has a great ability to bring history alive," writes Greg Spinks, Crawford County (Pennsylvania) Community Blogger.
