"I was meeting some really unique individuals and they were all enthusiastic about a possible book promoting them and the art scene in Wilmington, NC, which is very vibrant for such a small market "

Rick Ricozzi is a Wilmington NC photographer who enjoys the company and stimulation of creatives. After speaking with several local artists he surmised that as creative as they were, that most artists are not very good at self promotion. This gave him an idea for a project.
He put the word out via Face Book, a few gallery owners and even Craigslist that he was looking for artists who would be interested in participating in a portrait project. In exchange for a model release, Rick would photograph the artist in their work studio, supply the artist with a file they could use for their promotion purposes, and write a small piece about the artist, with photos, on his blog: Rick Ricozzi Photography Blog. http://rickricozziphotography.com/wordpress. The response was terrific and Rick hopes to put together a book at the end of the project.
"I was overwhelmed at first, because there was no guarantee that I would see any monetary rewards from the project, but as I interacted with each artist, that really didn't matter. I was meeting some really unique individuals and they were all enthusiastic about a possible book promoting them and the art scene in Wilmington, NC, which is very vibrant for such a small market. They also liked receiving a free file to use for their self promotion. It has become really fun. I took a break in April due to work commitments, but hope to resume shooting this October at the latest. I haven't put a limit on the number of artists I'll photograph, but have left it open and will make a decision once I feel I have enough material. Its a first come first serve format."
