Rockville, MD (Vocus) September 14, 2010
FileTek, Inc., a pioneer developer of innovative data management and information governance solutions, today announced that its global partner, PHD Brasil Ltda., the distributor of FileTek products in Brazil, won the prestigious Information Lifecycle Management (ILM) award for its Fast Database Design and Migration (FDDB)/ StorHouse® application at Banco Do Brasil, one of the largest federal banks in South America. The award was presented to PHD at the world-renowned CIAB IT conference for the banking industry. Sponsored by the Brazilian Federation of Banks (FEBRABAN), CIAB hosts over 6,000 banking and IT professionals each year.
The FDDB/StorHouse application enables Banco do Brasil to selectively move older, less frequently accessed data from its operational IBM DB2 and Oracle databases to StorHouse. Users maintain fully functional, relational access to migrated data not only from the originating primary database system but also directly from other platforms and applications across the enterprise. By reducing the amount of data in the operational systems, the Bank can realize faster database load times; quicker query executions; and reduced timeframes for performing periodic data backups, space recovery, and general database administration tasks. The bottom line is a lower-cost, infinitely scalable, easily accessible, online solution for DB2 and Oracle users.
According to Luiz Pizani, president of PHD Brasil, “Regardless of the industry, data is a corporation’s greatest asset because it provides knowledge, competitive advantage, and market-share gains. And, in the case of Banco do Brasil, data is a vital element in the transactional processes of the bank’s business agents. The FDDM/StorHouse application at the bank preserves the value of business data by segregating it on different online and near-line storage tiers based on access requirements. Because data segregation is completely transparent and seamless to applications and users, there was no need to modify the Bank’s current applications, thereby preserving the Bank’s investments in existing technology.”
The award-winning ILM solution consists of StorHouse from FileTek and the PHD-developed FDDM application. http://www.filetek.com ]StorHouse is a unique storage virtualization platform that can archive, retrieve, and back up massive amounts of relational and file-based information using an automatically managed pool of traditional and alternative storage devices. At Banco do Brasil, StorHouse provides the near-line relational database software for historical data and all storage and information management features, including automatic data backup, migration, recovery, replication, and content validation and repair.
The FDDM component is comprehensive wrapper software that facilitates access to StorHouse. It includes intelligent data discrimination/identification and loading modules, database schema design and mapping tools, download modules, and archival visual analysis components. PHD also provides professional services for evaluating and modifying the application to satisfy the Bank’s changing business requirements.
Together, StorHouse and FDDM provide many benefits to Banco do Brasil, including: Enhanced performance of the operational system because there is less data to manage online; Low administrative overhead based on automated storage management; Transparent user access to historical near-line data through existing applications; More critical data readily available to bank agents and clients for research, analysis, and critical business decision-making; Improved customer satisfaction; Mitigated compliance risk; Immediate return on investment.
Gary Szukalski, President of FileTek, commented, “FileTek congratulates Mr. Pizani and his associates on receiving the ILM award. The FDDB/StorHouse solution at Banco du Brasil is a testament to PHD’s expertise in tailoring data and storage management solutions to individual
customer requirements. We are proud to have PHD as our technology partner and to be a part of the company’s success story.”
