PERSIGUIENDO A RUBIROSA

Zsa-Zsa Gabor summoned the press to let them know that Rubirosa had slapped her over the face for rejecting his marriage proposal, then ran off to married Barbara Hutton. Next day all the mannequins on Rodeo Drive were decorated with studded eye patches.-

Authors Isabella and Marty Wall announced today the launching of PERSIGUIENDO A RUBIROSA at the 4th Annual Dominican Book Fair in New York City October 1-3 2010. The recent Spanish version of CHASING RUBI, the first English biography about the Dominican Diplomat-Playboy and most prolific gigolo of the 20th century. The book launch coincides with the re-release of the History Channel International/ BIO Channel’s Rubirosa documentary, in which the authors are featured.

The official launch will take place in an intimate event at 809 Lounge in Manhattan, where Rubirosa admirers will be able to obtain autographed copies of the book, enjoy a toast by rum Brugal and a special menu of Rubirosa’s favorite dishes. Additionally there will be an art exhibit by renowned Hollywood Muralist and fellow Dominican, Robert Maja entitled “THE REPUBLIC OF RUBIROSA” inspired by the book Chasing Rubi. The 809 Lounge will present the music and the glamour of Rubirosa’s period from the late 40’s to mid 60’s and will screen clips from the History Channel documentary.

“This investigative project has taken us 20 plus years including 8 years to obtain his 900 page FBI file. The Spanish version includes new FBI documents and photography and is selling out bookstores in Santo Domingo. We are very excited to bring our story to New York” said co-author Marty Wall.

The book is narrated in part by Rubirosa himself through his obscure memoirs and supported by the facts contained in the FBI files. Rubirosa story puts him front and center of historical moments and players like, the Bay of Pigs, Castro, JFK, Frank Sinatra and Peter Lawford highlighting anecdotes of espionage, conspiracy, politics, assassinations and romances on the stage of the high-life and the jet-set of the 40s - 60s. In the book many rumors circulating about Rubirosa are either put to rest or confirmed including being an inspiration for the James Bond character, the myth about his sexual prowess and receiving millions to stay in the company of rich heiresses like, Doris Duke, Bárbara Hutton and Hollywood starlets like Zsa-Zsa Gabor and Marilyn Monroe.

The PERSIGUIENDO A RUBIROSA, Espía, asesino o solo un gigoló (Spy, assassin or just a gigolo) book launch will celebrate the man known by many titles like “the best dressed man of his times”, “man of international mystery”, “the Casanova of the Caribbean”, International sportsman, polo and race car champion, airplane pilot, treasure hunter and honorary member of the “Rat Pack”, but the biography reveals a different Rubirosa than the gossip column headlines: a dark figure who was under constant surveillance by the US State Department, FBI and CIA but cleverly hid behind his charm and diplomatic immunity for 30+ years.
