TeraXion and Proximion, both manufacturers of fiber Bragg grating (FBG)-based dispersion compensators, have agreed to standardize their tunable dispersion compensation modules for high-speed network systems.
The compatibility agreement covers the form factor of the tunable optical dispersion compensators (TODCs), limiting the maximum length and width to 150x22 mm. The resulting plug-and-play module is half the total footprint of the competing Etalon technology and yet retains its competitive edge on optical specifications, the companies assert. Additionally, both the electrical interface and command set of the TODCs will remain standard.
FBG-based TODCs have been deployed in volume since 2003.
“The ClearSpectrum-TDCMX is a product that is already well established on the market, and this agreement will give more options to system vendors while remaining fully compatible with the form factor.” said Martin Guy, TeraXion’s vice-president of technology and marketing. “The agreement with Proximion truly demonstrates the advantages of the FBG technology for tunable compensators as our customers can now efficiently use that extra space they were saving for the Etalon technology”.
“The Proximion TDCM is the latest addition to our comprehensive portfolio of advanced cost and space saving FBG based dispersion products” said Bengt Johansson, CTO, Proximion. “The MSA with TeraXion offers a fully transparent dual source which, with the current extreme surge in demand, will prove to be very valuable to our customers.”
