Through The Baking Corner I can connect directly with home bakers and share my knowledge and enthusiasm for baking with bakers of all skill levels.

The Baking Corner (http://www.thebakingcorner.com) covers all aspects of baking with recipes ranging from pies and cakes to cookies and brownies to breads and even a few baked breakfast foods. There will also be plenty of “How To” tutorials, detailed information on ingredients and equipment for baking, and even a page dedicated to baking contests. “’The Baking Corner’ has been a dream of mine for awhile,” Amendt says. “I can connect directly with home bakers and share my knowledge and enthusiasm for baking with bakers of all skill levels.”
While blogging is a new venture for Amendt, writing about food and creating delicious recipes is not. Author of three extensive award-winning cookbooks on baking and home canning, she has developed her own writing style. “Cooking can be intimidating, so I like to present information in a friendly, approachable manner,” Amendt says. “Readers tell me that they enjoy my books so much because they feel like I am right there alongside them in the kitchen guiding them through the process.”
Through her writing, Amendt not only explains the “how” of baking, but also discusses the “why” behind the method. “If you tell someone what to do, they are often left with unanswered questions. My approach is to also explain the purpose behind specific techniques and why they make a difference in the flavor, texture and appearance of the finished baked goods,” Amendt says. “When people understand why a technique or method is important, they become better bakers.”
Her books have earned over a dozen national and international cookbook awards. Linda J. Amendt’s latest book, “400 Sensational Cookies” ($24.95; Robert Rose Inc.), has already won nine book awards including the Cordon d’ Or International Culinary Academy Award for Best Baking Book, the International Book Award for Best Baking/Bread Book, the New York Book Award for Best Cookbook, and the Mom’s Choice Gold Medal Award for Cooking, Food and Wine Books.
Amendt started her food career as a state and county fair competitor. During over 15 years of food competition she won over 900 awards, including over 600 blue ribbons and special awards for excellence. She now serves as a food judge at a number of the fairs where she once competed.
Amendt’s other award-winning cookbooks are “Blue Ribbon Preserves: Secrets to award-winning Jams, Jellies, Marmalades & More” and “175 Best Jams. Jellies, Marmalades & Other soft Spreads.”
