Company to create abridged audio books for sale by MP3 download or shipped CD

Infinity Publishing, a pioneer in self-publishing, today announced the introduction of 1-Hour Audio™, a new audio book publishing offering for independent authors and publishers.

The 1-Hour Audio program takes an author's condensed manuscript or book and transforms it into a lively audio book that is a maximum of 72 minutes, or approximately 11,000 spoken words. The audio books are sold with full-color, retail-ready packaging as a CD and in downloadable formats such as MP3.

"Similar to how CliffsNotes popularized condensed versions of printed books, our goal with 1-Hour Audio is to provide authors and publishers with easy access into the audio book market, while delivering a consumer product that is streamlined for fast learning and entertainment," said Arthur Gutch, chief executive officer of West Conshohocken, Penn.-based Infinity Publishing. "The offering should generate new sales for the authors' and publishers' print and eBook versions by exposing their work to new audiences and markets."

For a one-time setup of $599, books are recorded and fully produced, including music and narration by a professional reader. Special audio announcements are inserted to publicize the author or publisher and their other work available for sale.

"Infinity's 1-Hour Audio really brings a book to life, which makes a dynamic impact on the audience and engages them in a way that aligns with the fast-paced, mobile way that people live today," said Margo Corbett, the author of The Savvy Patient's Toolkit, published by Infinity Publishing as both a print title and a 1-Hour Audio book.

"We provide authors with a three-minute sample for their own Web site and make their audio books available for sale through our distribution partners, such as Ingram, Baker & Taylor,,, The iTunes Store and others," said Gutch.

According to the Association of American Publishers, sales of downloadable audio books soared by more than 34% through the first six months of 2010. Only eBook sales are growing at a faster clip in the book publishing industry.

Infinity Publishing has been rolling out a range of new products and author services since May 2010, including a comprehensive eBook publishing program for self-published authors and new publishing programs for authors seeking high-quality, full-color books that can be printed on demand.
