Agreement provides site-wide access to Lexi-Comp® Knowledge Solution™ in all AHS facilities, including 97 acute care sites

We are thrilled to have been selected by AHS as their drug information provider

Lexi-Comp, Inc., a global provider of drug information and drug data solutions for healthcare professionals, announced today that it has signed a three-year agreement with Alberta Health Services (AHS) to provide drug information solutions to clinicians across all Alberta healthcare facilities, including 97 acute care sites within the AHS system. The agreement comes just months after a study published in the Canadian Journal of Hospital Pharmacy ranked Lexi-Comp the "most preferred" drug information database among those evaluated on the basis of quality, performance and user preference.

The contract gives AHS clinicians institution-wide access to the Lexi-Comp Knowledge Solution, a suite of comprehensive drug information databases and clinical modules accessible online and on the latest Smartphone/PDA devices.

"We are thrilled to have been selected by AHS as their drug information provider," said Steven Kerscher, Lexi-Comp president and chief operating officer. "As Canada's first province-wide, fully integrated health system, AHS has the ability to positively affect patient care and enhance outcomes for 3.7 million Albertans. We at Lexi-Comp are honored to be a part of that by providing AHS clinicians site-wide access to our comprehensive drug information solutions."

AHS clinicians began evaluating Lexi-Comp in 2009 in an effort to select a new drug information provider that offered all clinicians (pharmacists, physicians and nurses) a more point-of-care solution than the resource they were using. Lexi-Comp's easy-to-use interface, layout and navigation, and comprehensive patient education materials in 18 languages, with Punjabi coming soon, ultimately led AHS staff to choose Lexi-Comp.

"Lexi-Comp is easy-to-use because of the way the information is organized," said Verla Chatsis, AHS drug information pharmacist at the University of Alberta Hospital in Edmonton. "The interface is more intuitive than our current drug information resource, and I love that we now have patient information leaflets in different languages."

Erwin Friesen, drug information manager in the AHS pharmacy department, said it was Lexi-Comp's point-of-care, institution-wide solution for pharmacists, physicians and nurses that set it apart from the competition. "It is definitely the point-of-care content that Lexi-Comp has that makes it so attractive," he said. "Lexi-Comp helps all AHS clinicians get to the answers more succinctly, without having to sift through a ton of information."

Lexi-Comp resources available to AHS clinicians system-wide include: Lexi-Comp® ONLINE™, a Web-based drug and disease information resource for pharmacists, physicians and nurses offering two levels of drug information, both concise and in-depth; Martindale: The Complete Drug Reference™, an international drug reference containing information from over 40 countries and regions; and Lexi-Comp's information on Smartphone/PDA devices, including iPhone®, iPad™, BlackBerry®, iPod touch®, Palm®, Palm webOS™, Pocket PC, Windows Mobile® and Android™.

Lexi-Comp will conduct extensive on-site trainings at AHS facilities and host webinars as part of a process to ensure all AHS clinicians quickly transition to using a new drug information resource. Kerscher says he and his team hope to complete training by the end of October.
