“Elliott” is the stunning single from TESS, part of the new breed of emerging performer songwriters. It's warm strings, emotive vocals and memorable guitar hook truly reintroduce us to an era of classic production that now sounds fresh and engaging.
Describing Elliott Smith's mesmerising Oscar performance and sampling lyrics from “Angeles” by Smith (with kind permission from his Publishing company), it talks about the internal struggles that face many songwriters and asks people to take a moment to really connect with the writer. To see beyond today's demands for 2 minute pop records.
A music video accompanying the single is available to watch on Youtube.
TESS was born in 1972. In those following years, there could have not been a better education into music and songcraft. Bowie, The Doors, Nick Drake, John Lennon -it all left a caliber of musical structure and melody that strongly imprinted on the mind of a growing child. As each newly released song was taken in on a Sunday "chart show" afternoon, it taught him to express emotion through art; yet, more importantly, gave him something to aspire to. This song is his dedication to the songs that altered his world. His debut album MAGPIE is out late October..
Elliott (download single) was released on Tuesday 21st September 2010
