Calling All Florida Teachers of Mathematics

The 58th Annual Conference of the Florida Council of Teachers of Mathematics (FCTM) to take place September 30 – October 2, 2010 in ChampionsGate, near Orlando. All Florida-based elementary and teachers of mathematics are invited to attend.

WHAT: 58th Annual Conference, “Mathematics: Making it Count for the Next Generation” will offer more than 240 sessions and workshops for mathematics educators (covering all levels, from pre-K to grade 12), updates from the Department of Education and from the FCAT Test Development Center, an exhibit hall boasting more than 60 vendors, networking opportunities and entertainment. Noteworthy are the opening and closing sessions presented by Greg Tang, author of Grapes of Math, and Cathy Seeley Past-President of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics respectively.

WHO: The Florida Council of Teachers of Mathematics, a statewide organization focused on improving Florida’s mathematics instructional programs and promoting cooperation and communication amongst Florida teachers of mathematics. Organizers are expecting hundreds of teachers from all over Florida to participate. All three days are open to teachers of mathematics for every grade level.

WHY: The annual conference gives teachers/members the opportunity to share ideas, techniques, and research. It is a forum for mathematics educators to explore best teaching practices, thus enabling teachers to return to their classrooms better prepared to teach mathematics to all students.

WHEN: Thursday, September 30, Friday, October 1 and Saturday, October 2, 2010

HOURS: Registration begins at 7:00AM Thursday and Friday; Sessions/Workshops from 8AM – 4PM Thursday, from 8AM – 5:30PM Friday, and from 9:30AM – 12Noon on Saturday; Times for Special Events and Socials vary.
