London, UK (PRWEB) September 21, 2010
BigHand, the leading provider of voice productivity software in the public sector, has today announced that after a comprehensive selection and tender process with five other suppliers, East Sussex Hospitals NHS Trust chose BigHand as their preferred supplier for digital dictation along with ScribeTECH for outsourced transcription services.
East Sussex Hospitals NHS Trust will initially implement the combined BigHand and ScribeTECH solution software for 6 weeks in a chosen department to deliver the PAS integration according to user requirements. Following this, the solution will be rolled out Trust wide to over 350 users across the two main sites, eventually resulting in the East Sussex Hospitals NHS Trust site becoming one of the most integrated NHS implementations to date. For the project, BigHand will integrate with the Trust’s PAS system for patient demographics and generating template clinical correspondence and bringing in the Trust’s outsourcing partner, ScribeTECH, seamlessly.
Jane Morris, General Manager for Cardiology & Stroke Services commented:
“As a trust we elected to go down the route of a competitive tender, in order to establish the best possible solution which suited us. BigHand immediately came across as professional and extremely efficient and knew exactly what we, (the Trust) wanted. They knew their product inside out, unlike other suppliers we saw and with the added advantage of BigHand being the developer and not a reseller, we knew we could always rely on them for any questions or queries we may have about the product in the future.
As a Trust we found other suppliers comparatively less flexible in terms of product enhancements and adjustments. Being the developer, BigHand set up the system to suit our requirements and we can amend internally within the Trust if we see fit”.
Shiraz Austin, Managing Director of ScribeTECH commented;
“It is very pleasing to be awarded the contract to provide services to East Sussex Hospitals NHS Trust. We are confident that our partnership with BigHand on this project will ensure that the Trust will benefit from the combined experience of two strong suppliers.”
The main business driver behind the decision was to improve efficiencies and working practices. With the use of analogue tapes, long delays would occur between the time from a Clinician seeing a patient and the notes being typed up by a Secretary. This also led to uneven workloads for secretaries meaning very little work could be tracked or monitored on a day to day basis.
Jane Morris, General Manager for Cardiology & Stroke Services further commented;
“Another reason for choosing BigHand was their integrated server-side speech recognition technology which eliminates the need to spend hours of time on training your voice, this could boast huge advantages in the long term, not just for Clinicians and Secretaries, but for Trusts as a whole. With the government’s new costs saving initiatives starting to take hold, Trust’s will be continuously looking for new ways to save money and improve results, digital dictation and speech recognition provide an added flexibility along with improved data quality which will in the long run work out cheaper for Trusts.”
