"The 2010 ACCA Safety Award is a true reflection of Blue Dot’s commitment to safety," says Bob Callan, Safety Manager at Blue Dot Services of Maryland.
Forest Hill, MD (PRWEB) September 21, 2010
On September 1, 2010, the Air Conditioning Contractors of America (ACCA) announced the members of the 2010 Safety Masters Club. The Safety Masters Club is the HVACR industry's most prestigious recognition for contractors dedicated to safe workplaces. It is given out annually to recognize the companies that strive to be industry leaders in safety. Blue Dot Services, a residential and commercial mechanical contractor serving the Mid-Atlantic region, was one of 16 HVAC companies throughout the nation to receive this award for 2010.
"The 2010 ACCA Safety Award is a true reflection of Blue Dot’s commitment to safety," says Bob Callan, Safety Manager at Blue Dot. "Despite the economic downturn, we have continued to provide safety based training and guidance. Our field based team members have especially been receptive to these efforts, which are reflected by the reduced numbers of company vehicle accidents and work related injuries."
Ongoing, mandatory safety evaluations and training are part of the culture at Blue Dot, and it shows. Team members are in the field everyday working on heating and cooling equipment in Maryland, solar panels, energy audits, LEED certified buildings, automated building controls, mechanical and plumbing construction, VRV’s and more. Yet the company’s Recordable Incident Rate (RIR) is well below the OSHA industry standard for Plumbing and Mechanical Contractors. This is remarkable, given the size and scope of Blue Dot’s service universe, which includes Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania, Northern Virginia and Washington D.C.
"This summer, we have recertified more than 40 team members in CPR/First Aid & AED training. We also responded to newly enacted Crane Certification regulations and now have 20 team members fully certified and in compliance with MOSH (Maryland OSHA) requirements. In addition, we have 3 team members fully trained, certified and in compliance with the new EPA Lead paint regulations pertaining to retrofits in old buildings and facilities in the Maryland, Delaware and D.C. region, such as private schools and universities, day care facilities, and residential housing developments," Bob adds.
"The success or failure of a company’s commitment to a safe work environment begins with senior management. Without their backing, a safety plan cannot succeed," says Bob. This is precisely why Jeff Stagnoli, President of Blue Dot Services, continues to include the highest safety measures and training in the business plan for Blue Dot every year. "Working smart and safe is a large part of our business at Blue Dot. We look at safety as a profit center; our insurance premiums are lower, our employees remain healthy and productive and we are a desirable company to have on the job, as we lead by example upholding our standards in safety." Blue Dot is able to uphold these standards in a variety of industries where safety is of utmost importance, including healthcare, education, government, industrial, manufacturing, and hospitality to name a few.
This is two years in a row that a member of Fort Pitt Group, the parent company of Blue Dot, has received a National Safety Award. In 2009, Calvert-Jones in Alexandria, VA, won the 2009 National Safety Excellence Platinum Award from Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) in the Specialty Contractor category for the United States. Blue Dot also won the Gold Level Step Award for Safety from ABC in 2009 as well.
Blue Dot currently employs 260 employees; approximately 200 are service technicians in the field. For more information on the safety standards at Blue Dot Services of Maryland, please visit us online.
