Green Cross Canada has launched its newly formed website. Green Cross Canada was created on February 28, 2006 as 1 of 30 countries represented under Green Cross International. Its mission is to address major environmental issues requiring coordinated international action and in the prevention, mitigation, and rehabilitation of potentially catastrophic environmental events whether attributed to conflicts or natural disasters.
Green Cross International
Green Cross International was launched in April of 1993 under the initiation by former President of the USSR and Nobel peace laureate, Mikhail Gorbachev. Green Cross International is committed to working in the spirit of co-operation instead of confrontation.
Green Cross Canada is currently active in clean water projects in Haiti and is talking to UNEP (UN Environmental Program) and UNDP (UN Development Program) about other environmental remediation projects.
Green Cross Canada will be involved in the GCI Legacy of the Cold War Program and will work to ensure that it reaches its goals with minimum environmental impact.
It will initiate within the Green Cross family a Consequences of Disasters program/Environmental Disaster Response, aimed at reducing the effect of catastrophic events such as hurricanes, tsunamis, forest fires, oil spills, and industrial accidents through prevention, early intervention and rehabilitation.
Donations at this time are redirected to Green Cross International through the website.
