For the third summer in a row, a new style of HD Vision sunglasses from Impact Products and IdeaVillage has made it into the top 10 on the charts that rank "As Seen on TV" hits. Even more impressive: This campaign hit No. 1 on the Jordan Whitney "Greensheet" in early summer and has now hit No. 1 on the Infomercial Monitoring Service's top 50 chart, making it the most successful campaign to date.
HD Vision Ultras are the latest in a series of sunglasses featuring "high definition" lenses that block glare and enhance colors. HD Vision WrapArounds, featuring lenses that also block sunlight from the side, were the first to top the rankings in 2008. HD Vision Readers, which combine sunglasses with reading glasses, broke into the top 10 in the summer of 2009. Then in June of this year, HD Vision Ultras joined the club - and went on to claim the No. 1 spot on two charts for the first time ever. All three HD Vision styles continue to sell well at drug stores and mass-market retailers across the country.
"If you look back at the history of direct-response television (DRTV), you'll be hard-pressed to find another example of this ever happening," said Bill Quarless, president of Impact Products. "It is generally believed that line extensions don't work on DRTV because so few have ever succeeded. Of those that have succeeded, no one ever gets past the second product. To get to the third product and have it exceed the previous two … well, that's just amazing!"
Equally amazing is the "high level of customer satisfaction and extremely low return rate" of the entire sunglasses line, Quarless added. "There's no doubt the quality of these sunglasses has played an important part in their success," he said. "We always strive to make the best product we can, and it has been so rewarding to see how well the entire line has been received by consumers."
