Drawing on over three decades of experience as an executive and non-executive director across a range of industries, author Dr. Eileen Doyle provides readers an overview of business management—from strategic analysis and planning to day-to-day management. In her newly released book, Back to Business Basics: Six Useful Toolkits for Small to Medium Enterprises, she takes the disciplined approach of larger businesses and develops some useful toolkits for small to medium businesses.
This book does not intend to stifle the great innovation and free thinking that exists in small, growing companies, but rather, to complement those initiatives with some useful tools that give them a much greater chance to succeed. This explains the key elements of business performance management. It intends to provide a framework to understand where these elements fit, along with enough detail to give a good understanding of a range of toolkits. Also, the chapters of this book can be used as a checklist to see whether the business is addressing all the basic areas of business performance management.
With an in-depth discussion on the six toolkits – strategy toolkit, business planning toolkit, marketing toolkit, operational toolkit, portfolio management toolkit, and tracking toolkit – the elements of business performance management, and how to make it happen, this book will indeed equip readers with distinct techniques that can be applied to any business. The level of detail applicable will depend on the company’s size and complexity, but the underlying principles are valid for even the small businesses.
