World-Renowned Scholar to Train Participants in Human Resilience and Crisis Management to Become More Effective Leaders

UMBC Training Centers, delivering high quality, flexible, non-credit education and training programs, today announced that it has added a new certificate program in Resilient Crisis Leadership to its growing curriculum. The certificate program is designed to train leaders at every level to prepare for the unexpected in order to become resilient leaders. Dr. George S. Everly Jr., a world-renowned scholar in the fields of Crisis Leadership and Stress Management, will lead the courses.

“We created this certificate program to teach today’s leaders how to succeed through the adverse conditions that their organizations face, ranging from bleak economic conditions to natural disasters to threats to national security,” said Kent Malwitz, Vice President of UMBC Training Centers. “A key to success has proven to be a leader’s ability to see opportunities in crisis. We want to train effective leaders to build resilience in themselves and their employees to help them move towards these opportunities while others are retreating.”

The courses will be led by Dr. George S. Everly Jr., co-founder of the International Critical Incident Stress Foundation, a non-profit United Nations-affiliated public health and safety organization. Dr. Everly has authored over 20 books including “The Resilient Child” and “The Secrets of Resilient Leadership.” A former faculty member at Harvard University, Dr. Everly also holds faculty appointments at Johns Hopkins University and Loyola University.

“I’m honored to be here at UMBC Training Centers, where science, academia and industry converge to offer education and training experiences that are different than anywhere in the country,” said Dr. Everly. “History and current events teach us that the key to survival and even prosperity during crisis is resilient crisis leadership. We have developed this certification program to teach managers at all levels how to create a culture of resilience in the wake of unexpected events.”

In order to obtain a Certificate in Resilient Crisis Leadership, participants must complete three one-day courses including Secrets of Resilient Crisis Leadership: When Failure is Not an Option; Advanced Communication Skills for Leaders; and Psychological Body Armor: Secrets of America’s Warrior Elite for Developing Personal and Professional Resilience.

The first Certificate program in Resilient Crisis Leadership will be offered at the UMBC Technology Center in Baltimore, Md., from Nov. 3-5, 2010. For more information on course details and to register, please visit
