Whatever You Want: New Work by Omar Lee
October 1 - 31, 2010; Reception 7-9 pm, October 1, 2010
San Francisco design store and gallery, Rare Device, is proud to present: Whatever You Want: New Work by Omar Lee. The work will occupy the Rare Device gallery October 1-31, 2010. A reception for the show will be held Friday, October 1, 2010 from 7 - 9 pm.
Whatever You Want is an exploration into the relationship between computer-assisted and traditional image-making. Working in lockstep the computer assisted artist realizes his work is attempting to either mimic or replace entirely evidence of the human hand’s existence. Based on the narrative nature of his past work Lee shows us the evolution in process. He incorporates a more pronounced effort to break free from the more rigid nature of designed, illustrative images traditionally intended to disguise the hand’s involvement and instead produces something more compelling.
Omar Lee, a native of Los Angeles, cranks out his small, simple paintings by moonlight whilst earning a living laying bricks on the almighty internet and renting his illustrative services to various commercial concerns and editorial empires of all sizes. He is glad he moved to San Francisco six years ago, though everyone told him he was crazy for doing so.
Rare Device is a store and gallery that features functional experiments and original ideas in art, design, craft and fabrication. Owners Rena Tom and Lisa Congdon constantly seek out objects that are beautiful, evocative, well constructed and thoughtful. We are pleased to bring to our San Francisco store an ever-growing roster of local, national and international artists and designers for a truly "rare" experience.
Rare Device (raredevice.net) is located at 1845 Market Street between Valencia and Guerrero Streets. Store/gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday, noon to 7pm and Sunday noon to 6 pm.
