A day-long symposium on the presidency of Calvin Coolidge and its implications for today’s world will be held on October 7 at the JFK Library in Boston.
The theme for the day is “Straight Talk” and will feature public policy leaders and historians.
As Robert Kirby, President of the Board of Trustees stated “President Coolidge’s challenges are strikingly similar to those testing our government today—a troubled economy, an international situation marked by major crisis, and a population hungering for normalcy. Coolidge met every challenge and put America back on track. He gave us fiscal soundness, optimism and a deep belief that America would prosper.”
The keynote speaker is John C. “Jack” Bogle whose impact on America’s as well as the entire free world’s view of proper investing was reflected in his being named by Time magazine as “one of the 100 most influential persons in the world.” He has always been a symbol of integrity and clarity throughout his very distinguished career. His values, honesty and directness mirror so much of what President Coolidge believed.
Former Presidential Candidate and Governor of Massachusetts Michael S. Dukakis will address Coolidge’s character and political style. Best Selling author Amity Shlaes will examine Coolidge’s financial recovery program that reduced the national debt by 37% and led the nation to unparalleled prosperity during his presidency. Each symposium speaker will cover a specific aspect of the Coolidge presidency as well as Coolidge’s unique ability to rally the public to achieve more than anyone deemed possible.
The Symposium will be held 9:00-4:30 October 7, 2010 at the JFK Library in Boston. The Gala Dinner at the JFK Library will commence with Hors d’oeuvres at 6:00 PM.
It will be an interesting and informative day.
