mSpot “Music in the Cloud” Service Reaches 500,000 Android Downloads in First Two Months

Debuts New Features Including Additional Storage Options and Voice-Activated Playback

mSpot, Inc., the leading cloud entertainment provider, reports today that its streaming music service of the same name has been downloaded 500,000 times since its June 28 launch. Additionally, mSpot is offering new features including storage options that allow users to keep up to 40 GB of music in the cloud as well as voice-activated features via Google Voice. The improved music app is available in the Android Market, and to all PC and Mac users at http://www.mspot.com.

“We speculated a year ago that the demand for cloud based entertainment would be on the rise due to the growing number of media capable devices coming to market such as smartphones, set-top boxes, tablets and PCs,” said mSpot CEO Daren Tsui. “What we didn’t expect is how quickly the demand skyrocketed, as exhibited by our early organic growth just on Android.”

According to a recent survey by Pew Research, technology experts expect that cloud and mobile computing will overtake PCs by 2020. mSpot user data shows that mobile is gaining traction among users as an entertainment and cloud platform. According to internal company usage data, those customers who have the option to listen via both Web and Mobile spent the majority of the time (83% in August) listening on mobile.

The mSpot music service enables users to quickly upload their music to the mSpot Cloud and then immediately start listening from both desktop browsers and mobile phones for free (2 gigabytes or ~1600 songs). As of today, users can choose to access 40 gigabytes of storage (~32,000 songs) for $3.99 a month.
Other new features include:

  •     Voice activated playback via song/artist/album search for Android
  •     Prioritized uploading by Artist, Album and Playlists
  •     Option to stream music (not save on phone) to conserve SD card space
  •     Load songs quickly on the phone via USB sideloading
