In the wake of the economic crisis and continued scrutiny of executive compensation by media and shareholders, a large number of U.S. companies are challenged with attracting and retaining critical-skill employees and talented leaders to help them rebound and prosper (Source: Towers Watson 2010). Executive compensation practitioners are being called upon to design and manage programs that attract, motivate and retain dynamic executives and leaders who have the ability to drive positive business results. To ensure that companies are working with knowledgeable and competent executive rewards practitioners, WorldatWork Society of Certified Professionals® is introducing the Certified Executive Compensation Professional™ (CECP)
credential in October. The new certification is designed for executive rewards practitioners, consultants and human resources managers involved in the design and administration of executive compensation to objectively measure and signify their knowledge and credibility in this specialty area.

Several executive compensation practitioners who participated in the CECP beta test will be designated with the credential once it debuts in October. One of the new certified professionals, Jessica Carbullido, CEP, MBA, Director of Compensation, Con-way, Inc. said, "With more than 15 years of experience in both compensation and executive compensation, I can honestly say that executive compensation is the most complex and dynamic field of total rewards. In order to have an effective and compliant executive compensation program, professionals are required to have a broad and in-depth understanding of strategy, plan design and administration, and this designation will help give some true credibility to those with that strong knowledge base."
The CECP certification was developed after WorldatWork completed an extensive analysis of the executive compensation body of knowledge, practices and competencies earlier this year. Similar to the Certified Sales Compensation Professional™ (CSCP) designation, this new credential can be acquired by passing one comprehensive, computer-based exam. The CECP was developed under a competency-based model, so there is no single preparation course that includes all content in the exam. However, chances for success improve for candidates with at least three or more years of experience.
