Talyst Inc. announced today that it has surpassed 500 customers of its world-class software and proven hardware components to enhance efficiency, provide greater inventory control, and improve patient safety in several healthcare environments. Talyst, exhibiting this week at the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists (ASCP) 32nd Mid-Year Conference and Exhibition, has served acute care hospitals and integrated healthcare companies since 2002. In 2009 it leveraged its expertise in pharmacy automation to build unique systems designed specifically to address the needs of long-term care facilities and correctional institutions.
At ASCP Talyst (find Talyst on Twitter @Talyst_Inc.) will demo the InSiteRx™ Remote Dispensing System, an on-location automated remote dispensing technology specifically designed for long-term care facilities. The recently-passed Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (March 23, 2010) mandates the use of specific uniform dispensing techniques, “such as weekly, daily, or automated dose dispensing” to reduce waste in this market.
“While we’re waiting in the wings for the new short cycle fill, or ‘7-day-or-less,’ mandates to take effect January 1, 2012, we’re excited to share with pharmacies the remote dispensing options available to them today,” said Carla Corkern, Talyst CEO. “With automated technologies such as InSiteRx, Talyst is able to provide multi-dose, on-demand medication dispensing with patient-specific packaging, empowering facilities to virtually eliminate waste and reduce medication errors.”
For example: Wellfount Pharmacy in Indianapolis services long-term care facilities and has implemented InSiteRx technology. The InSiteRx units dispense medication in patient-specific, multi-dose packages, right before the medication pass.
"In this industry, there is a significant amount of waste," said Paul Leamon, president and chief executive officer of Wellfount Pharmacy. According to Leamon, InsiteRx is enabling Wellfount to achieve a 90 percent decrease in the number of returned medications, which otherwise would have resulted in large amounts of waste.
“We are thrilled to provide so many pharmacies and customers with innovative technologies that will improve the way medications are handled across the country,” said Corkern. “Our customers, all 500-plus, are every-day reminders that change will happen. We want to get out there now and help other pharmacy and facility executives effectively plan to meet the new law’s requirements by 2012.”
