This Healthcare BI Summit recognizes the importance of helping healthcare professionals understand and implement a BI strategy. “Even in a healthy economy, healthcare organizations need to maximize their return on data to run more efficiently and deliver a higher standard of care,” In an interview with the Chair of the Executive Committee for the Midwest Healthcare BI Summit, Laura Madsen explains why the Summit was created, its goals for 2010, and the practical knowledge that attendees will receive.

“How did the Midwest Healthcare BI Summit come to fruition?”
L. Madsen: It was really out of frustration. I had been searching for industry-specific content in BI and DW and I was unsuccessful. I thought, ‘well, there’s a gap here’. While it’s true that BI/DW is a mature industry both Healthcare Payers and Providers are relatively new to the party. Delivering Healthcare BI is fundamentally different than delivering BI to other industries; that difference warrants an educational event all its own.

“How does the 2010 Summit differ from 2009?”
L. Madsen: Last year we focused on operational considerations for healthcare organizations. Our speakers had a myriad of different experiences and as a result the content, while very good, didn’t have a consistent theme. This year we really decided to focus on healthcare experience and expertise. Every one of our speakers comes with a very impressive pedigree of healthcare experience. Then you add the fact that most of them have been doing BI/DW for many years, and the result is some of the most experienced healthcare BI professions in the industry, all in one room.

“What should attendees expect from the Summit this year?”
L. Madsen: There will be great content on:

  • Transformational Change in Health Services' Performance Through Business Intelligence
  • Implementing BI with realistic resource constraints
  • Delivering Business value through data management
  • ICD-10 Conversion

Attendees will also get to see our sponsors’ offerings at the ‘Taste of Technology’. This event allows attendees to learn about the latest tools and technologies that exist for solving the complex problems of delivering healthcare BI. Attendees at the Taste of Technology will also be entered to win an iPad. But, most importantly, attendees will walk away with highly-focused knowledge of practical concepts associated with delivering business value through BI and Data Warehousing programs.

Executives and managers of hospitals, health plans, pharmacy benefit management companies, third-party payers, medical device manufacturers and other healthcare organizations will learn how to enhance their everyday business processes and decision-making. Attendance is free to employees of these organizations. Others may attend for a fee--see http://healthcarebisummit.com/register/ for details.
