Every month, empoweringNews informs meeting and event planners of the latest destination news at convention and visitors bureaus (CVBs) across the U.S., the easiest place online for meeting and event planners to search for meeting facilities and connect with destination expert organizations (DMOs), distributed the sixth edition of empoweringNews on Sept. 20. This announcement includes an online archive of the latest issue of empoweringNews.

***Destination News—Midwest: In Chicago, the SCVNGR Game Is On***

The promise of first-to-market, unparalleled and built-in online interactivity for exhibitors and attendees alike is now yet another reason for meeting planners to schedule their next events in Chicago, already home to McCormick Place, the nation's largest meeting facility. The Chicago Convention & Tourism Bureau (CCTB) has announced that it is the first CVB to provide show organizers with a social gaming platform, SCVNGR. This month, the country’s largest manufacturing technology show, International Manufacturing Technology Show (IMTS), was the first Chicago-bound event to avail itself of the opportunity.

***Destination News—Southwest: iPhone Apps Get Frisco***

The Frisco, Texas CVB has unveiled the VisitFrisco iPhone App, designed by Frisco's own Single Serving Media and compatible with compatible with the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. Users may instantly connect to events, hotels, restaurants and shopping information. Located less than a half hour north of Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, Frisco is home to award-winning hotels, shopping, concerts and events, four professional sports teams, and more than 150 pieces of art on public display.

***New Developments—Southeast: Tennessee Mayor and Omni Make Music***

At Music City Center, that is. Mayor Karl Dean recently sealed a predevelopment agreement with Omni Hotels & Resorts to construct and operate the Omni Nashville Hotel, a headquarters for Music City Center, Nashville’s new downtown convention center scheduled to open in 2013. The hotel, itself slated to open later that same year, will feature approximately 800 guest rooms and suites, as well as more than 80,000 square feet of meeting and event space.

***New Developments—Northeast: JFK Int'l Airport Paces with New York City, to Break Tourism Record***

This year, New York City is likely to break its record for tourism. The need for the city's infrastructure to keep pace is acute, and new plans, unveiled recently by Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg, Governor David A. Paterson and Delta Air Lines CEO Richard Anderson, answer the need: A $1.2 billion redevelopment and expansion of Delta Air Lines Terminal 4 will provide more than 10,000 jobs over the three years of the project and result in a state-of-the-art facility.
