Open source extension to Crafter rivet provides complete authoring and publishing environment for next generation websites and other content-rich Web applications.

Rivet Logic Corporation, a leading provider of open source content management and collaboration solutions, launched Crafter Studio, an extension to the open source Crafter rivet framework, designed to provide a comprehensive Web content authoring and publishing environment suitable for enterprises of any size and scale.

Crafter rivet, launched in September of 2009, was developed as an open source framework for building content-rich applications, including next generation enterprise websites, portals, and social networking platforms. It provides the foundation for quickly building high-performance, flexible Web content delivery systems - delivering content that is managed by Web content management systems like Alfresco WCM.

Through numerous implementations of Crafter rivet and Alfresco WCM, Rivet Logic saw a need for a robust content authoring environment, which led to the development of Crafter Studio. As a major extension to the Alfresco content management system, Crafter Studio provides a user-friendly and extensible platform for managing not only all Web content, but also the entire site visitor experience of next generation websites and other content-oriented Web applications.

Crafter Studio offers in-context/in-line editing of all Web content with live preview, allowing rapid content editing, review and publishing cycles. In addition, it includes full support of Alfresco’s underlying workflow engine for content review and approval prior to publishing to production. Other features include dynamic navigation and dashboards for viewing and managing editorial tasks, workflow events, content analytics, and marketing campaigns, to name a few.

Crafter Studio utilizes Spring Surf for rapid front-end development and provides access to all of Alfresco’s underlying content management services, including both of Alfresco’s underlying DM and WCM repositories. By leveraging Alfresco’s new Web Editor Framework (WEF) and its plug-in architecture, Crafter Studio provides significant additional content editing capabilities not available anywhere else in the Alfresco community. To provide a complete solution, Crafter Studio also integrates in Orbeon for powerful forms-based authoring, YUI for rich Web content editing, Apache Solr for faceted search and dynamic site navigation, Google Analytics, and more.

Currently, Crafter Studio is undergoing Beta Test in which Rivet Logic has several customers participating, including a couple Fortune 500 companies. Crafter Studio is free and open source software licensed under the GNU General Public License (GPL) version 3. For more information, visit http://wiki.rivetlogic.com/display/Crafter/Studio.
