Barg dedicated the last 15 years of his life to being the caregiver of caregivers. In 1995, Gary moved from Atlanta, GA back home to Miami, FL to help his mother care for his grandparents. He was overwhelmed by nursing home, insurance, and state brochures that were presented to him when he asked for advice as a family caregiver, all of which lacked proper direction. Barg realized there needed to be a single source of information, advice, and support for caregivers.
Since then, Barg has become a noted speaker, writer and publisher on caregiving issues. He is founder and editor-in-chief of the first national magazine for caregivers, Today’s Caregiver, as well the original online caregiver community, caregiver.com. According to Barg, "We have met thousands of dedicated professional and family caregivers, interviewed over twenty celebrity caregivers and hopefully helped a few caregivers along the way."
Today’s Caregiver contains articles written by caregivers as well as healthcare experts, reinforcing the caregiver’s common needs for emotional, mental, and spiritual support. The magazine and caregiver.com combine information, advice and reader’s stories with interviews with celebrity caregivers such as former First Lady Rosalynn Carter, Della Reese, Rob Lowe, Dana Reeve, Barbara Eden, and Debbie Reynolds, among others.
Barg created Fearless Caregiver Conferences, which are held across the country and which bring together caregivers to share their knowledge and experience as well as honor the annual Care Heroes Award recipients. His book, The Fearless Caregiver, is filled with practical advice, poetry, and inspirational stories.
The husband and wife team of Mills and Baida launched eCareDiary.com in 2009, blending their extensive backgrounds in health care, business, and as family caregivers. The new website was born of their shared mission to help other families struggling to provide top-quality long term care for their loved ones. While caring for their aging relatives, Mills and Baida navigated the challenges and unexpected rewards that come with providing care at home.
eCare Diary was named a 2010 Caregiver Friendly Award recipient. Caregiver Friendly® Awards are presented by Today’s Caregiver magazine to celebrate outstanding books, media, products and services designed with the best interest of the family caregiver in mind.
eCareDiary.com is a leading website for caregivers focusing on the daily management of eldercare. The site offers free tools, resources, and social media community to help caregivers navigate a process often found confusing, difficult and stressful. The site’s goal is to empower caregivers to help them become better managers of their loved one’s care.
