Invest Green at San Diego's Salk Institute Adds More Speakers to Sustainable Program Set for Oct. 16

Registrations is now under way for Invest Green at the Salk Institute Saturday, Oct. 16. The dinner promises to be one of the year's largest gatherings in the region on the green economy, and will feature many of San Diego's smartest innovators, investors and leaders in the fast-growing sector of sustainability.

The program has been organized for anyone who wants to accelerate progress in developing a green economy in the region.

GreenSource Corp. and the Green Chamber of San Diego County have teamed to bring an innovative program, the first in a series of sustainability-promoting events, to the Salk Institute in La Jolla.

Ilya Fushman, an associate at Khosla Ventures, a $3 billion Silicon Valley venture capital firm that invests in the green companies of the future, will lead off a dynamic list of experts appearing Oct. 16 at Invest Green: Sowing the Seeds of a New Economy at the Salk Institute in La Jolla. Fushman will provide the keynote address to the expected crowd of 250 to 300 in attendance.

The event, which promises to be one of the year's largest gatherings in the region on the green economy, will feature many of San Diego's smartest innovators, investors and leaders in the fast-growing sector of sustainability.

The program has been organized for anyone who wants to accelerate progress in developing a green economy in the region.

"San Diego is a beautiful city with many amenities and resources. Sustainability here in terms of industry players is widespread, but the principle is too far from fully realized," said Tad Simmons, CEO at San Diego-based GreenSource Corp., which is co-hosting this important gathering along with the San Diego Green Chamber. "To develop this industry is to develop San Diego in a wise and inspiring direction."

Simmons added, "It's going to be a relaxing and informative evening with locally-grown organic food and wine, and plenty of time for inspiring conversation."

He said presenters will focus on a variety of sustainable issues, ranging from water and energy resources to agriculture and transportation. Besides the appearance of Ilya Fushman, the list of presenters scheduled to date includes:

-David Steel, CEO of the Green Chamber, who will provide remarks about the many growing sustainability companies in the San Diego region.
-Barbara Burton, a San Diego-based writer and public speaker from Inquiry International who focuses on ethics, branding and the social, environmental and financial responsibility of the corporation. She will provide the introduction to the event, and read San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders' welcome letter.
-Stewart Borie, an Encinitas, CA-based strategic adviser specializing in all aspects of organizing and launching new business startups, especially in the environmental space.
-Walter Kanzler, the founder of Eco Collaborative a progressive interdisciplinary Sustainable Design consulting practice based in Southern California. Kanzler is a well known leader in sustainable practices in San Diego and worldwide.
-Armond Mehrabian, a senior consultant at Escondido, CA-based Portofino Solutions, who will focus on strategies surrounding the smart grid.
-Dan Noble, co-founder and partner of the Escondido-based Resource Trends, a nationally recognized recycled resource market development firm.
-David Palella, founder of San Diego-based The Micro Revolutions Institute, a think tank that develops low-cost, micro-economic and micro-ecological systems for the developing world.
-Antranik and Ankist Zedeyan, owners of Clean Air Lawn Care, an environmentally friendly lawn care business located in San Diego.

The event will be held from 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, at the Salk Institute, 10010 North Torrey Pines Road, in La Jolla.

Participants will have many opportunities to ask questions and interact with the speakers, said Simmons.

The cost to attend is $75, $20 for students, $65 per person for parties of two or more. Early registration is encouraged.

As an added incentive, attendees who register by Oct. 2 will pay $65, or $55 each for parties of two of more. The cost is $100 at the door.
