In a pretty significant move, SMS Media Group, is making its SMS Ad Manager available to mobile operators, publishers and developers that want to monetize text messages with advertisements through a new API. Similar strategies have been made by Google, Microsoft and Facebook who have seen an increase in ad revenues since opening up their APIs.
"By opening up the API, we will broaden our partnerships and expand our mobile ad network," says Sheri Wells, CEO of SMS Media Group. The company saw an opportunity to improve its SMS Ad Manager with intensive targeting and unique click-tracking capabilities, and has improved its ad-serving technology over the last year. "We are currently integrating with several key industry players and the outcome is going to provide some of the best mobile ad inventory on the market," says Wells.
Publishers are looking for ways to monetize text messages with ads. The company's open API allows publishers to retrieve a targeted, text ad to insert into a text message, so that the message can be monetized. As a publisher's SMS volume grows, it becomes highly important to be able to monetize those messages to cover the costs of delivery and create new revenue streams.
There is a high demand from advertisers to send targeted direct messages to mobile phones. "It's the holy grail of advertising," says Sheri Wells. While companies need to use a variety of mobile media, SMS is still the dominant and most widely used channel by users. And, while Apple's iAds is exciting and much needed to push mobile marketing in general, the iPhone only accounts for 4% of the handset market whereas SMS is nearly 100% coverage.
While SMS Media Group includes rich mobile media in it's advertising solutions, Wells is more interested in delivering the right message to the right person at the right time, and is focused on advertiser ROI, not so much mobile gloss. "Our goal is to deliver successful campaigns with results," states Wells.
The SMS Ad Manger provides an accurate view of available inventory, reporting on impressions and unique click tracking through short mobile URLs. The system also controls frequency of ads delivered to a user and offers the retrieval of various text ad formats. The SMS Ad Manager provides advertisers trusted and reliable reporting by managing the ad serving between the publisher and advertiser.
SMS Media Group allows publishers to sell advertising directly or indirectly through the company's mobile ad network http://CellPhoneAds.com.
