Bowie & Jensen is pleased to announce that Robert R. Bowie, Jr., co-founder of the firm and head of its litigation department, has received the Leadership in Law Award from the Maryland Daily Record.

Mr. Bowie was honored for his skills as a litigator as well as contributions to the legal field and commitment to community service.

Bowie & Jensen is pleased to announce that Robert R. Bowie, Jr., co-founder of the firm and head of its litigation department, has received the Leadership in Law Award from the Maryland Daily Record.

The Leadership in Law Award was created in 2000 to recognize individuals whose leadership, both in the legal profession and in the community, has made a positive impact in the state of Maryland. Mr. Bowie was honored for his skills as a litigator as well as contributions to the legal field and commitment to community service.

As head of Bowie & Jensen’s litigation department Mr. Bowie has litigated all forms of business and business-related cases, including cases involving construction, intellectual property, trade secrets and administrative law. He has tried cases at the trial and appellate levels, in state and federal courts and in administrative hearings and in arbitration. Mr. Bowie also sits on the firm’s Executive Committee and was instrumental in developing and implementing the firm’s Associate Development program where associates have an opportunity to grow and chart their careers.

Mr. Bowie has lectured on trade secrets and intellectual property at the University Of Maryland School Of Law (2001). He has been active in the Maryland State Bar Association, as a member of its Laws Committee and Business Law Section, and has served on its Board of Governors and as liaison for the Board's Ethics Committee, its Business Law Section and its Laws Committee.

He has also been active in the Harvard Alumni Association and is currently the Association’s President. In addition to his role as President of the Harvard Alumni Association, Mr. Bowie has been co-chair of the HAA Schools and Scholarship Committee, Member-at-large, Vice President of College Affairs and Vice President of Engagement & Marketing of its Executive Committee. He is a member of the Harvard Clubs of Maryland and New York. In addition, Mr. Bowie is a member of the Board of Directors of The Columbia Bank. In the past he has also served on the Editorial Board of the Daily Record, on the Board of Directors of the Towson Chamber of Commerce (formerly known as Towson Business Association).

Mr. Bowie is a member of the Maryland State Bar and is admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court of Maryland, the U.S. Court of Appeals, Federal Circuit and the U.S. Court of Appeals, Fourth Circuit.

In his spare time Mr. Bowie is a playwright and poet. Eight of his plays have been performed and his most recent poems, Sonnet Cycle, consisting of 52 sonnets written one a week for a year, are posted on his personal web page, http://www.bowie.com. He also sits on the boards of Everyman Theatre and the Single Carrot Theatre.

Mr. Bowie was one of 24 individuals to receive the Leadership in Law award. The 2010 Leadership in Law awards will be celebrated at a luncheon at the BWI Hilton on Friday, Nov. 19, 2010.
