Today sees the launch of a brand new news and data intelligence platform for the international media industry. is the first site from U.K. based startup Briefing Media Ltd.

Covering all aspects of the industry - TV, Radio, Newspapers, Business Media, Magazines, Digital Media, Film and Finance - TheMediaBriefing looks at the strategic issues facing businesses as they continue their transition from an analogue to a digital world. The site has 3 main elements:

1) Semantic analysis and indexing of web content
Our bespoke algorithms trawl and index specialist sources of information for the media industry. We classify and tag articles from research labs, bloggers, social media, newspapers, analyst reports and traditional trade media. The site then points users back to the original source of that content and allows readers to follow and discover related articles. Users can sign up for free weekly newsletters based on their interest area.

2) Expert intelligence and opinion
In addition to collating the best information from third party sources TheMediaBriefing also presents a range of expert opinion from senior executives working in the field. Already we have a wide range of exclusive contributions from senior executives in the media industry including:
Tim Weller, CEO, Incisive Media
David Gilbertson, CEO, Emap
Alex Connock, CEO, Ten Alps
Greg Hadfield, former Head of Digital at Telegraph Media Group and now Director of Special Projects at Cogapp
Charlie McGee, Managing Director, Carat Digital
Lin Glover, Media Consultant
Peter Bale, Executive Producer, MSN UK
Matt Kelly, Digital Content Director, Mirror Group Newspapers
Jon Slattery, Newspapers Analyst

3) In-depth research
The research arm of TheMediaBriefing publishes a range of strategic intelligence reports. Our first covers Paywall Strategies for Online Content and has been authored by Peter Kirwan, Wired and Press Gazette Media Money columnist. Others in the pipeline include: Apps - the future of paid content online?; Performance based advertising models; Partnering & working with ad networks; Pay TV - subscriptions, on demand and tablet delivery; Working with the semantic web - opportunities for media brands to leverage content.

Briefing Media Ltd. was founded by Neil Thackray and Rory Brown, both seasoned B2B media executives, in the Summer of 2010. TheMediaBriefing is the first public site from the company but five more are in the pipeline. A video from the founders can be found here:

Our Editor & Media Analyst is Patrick Smith who was previously a correspondent for both PaidContent and Press Gazette.

Speaking about the launch of today Rory Brown said

"It seems ironic that at a time of unprecedented disruption of media models, the coverage of our industry by traditional media is so challenged. There's a lot of good strategic information out there from star columnists, bloggers, research labs and social media but it is very fragmented and can take ages to find. The aim of TheMediaBriefing is to pull all those strands of content together, to add context via semantic analysis and present this information in a user friendly way".

Neil Thackray added

"The combination of our intelligent search technology, original content and good old fashioned editorial expertise will deliver a compelling business media experience. We are looking forward to developing close relationships with readers and vendors in all the markets we will operate in".
