U.S. Foodservice Announces 2010 Vendor of the Year Award Winners

U.S. Foodservice, one of the country’s leading foodservice distributors, announces the winners of its annual vendor recognition awards.

During a ceremony today in Rosemont, Illinois, Pilgrim’s Pride took top honors and was named U.S. Foodservice’s 2010 Vendor of the Year out of more than 3,000 vendors. The poultry supplier also won the 2010 Center of the Plate award.

“The dedication and teamwork of suppliers is critical to our ability to deliver the highest quality products and services to customers,” said Pat Mulhern, president, Monarch Food Group, a division of U.S. Foodservice. “Congratulations to Pilgrim's Pride and the 11 other winning vendors on this outstanding achievement and thank you for helping make our customers more successful.”

More than 60 U.S. Foodservice divisions and support offices participate in the selection process. Vendors were evaluated on 10 criteria: Sales Growth in the Independent Sector, Gross Margin Improvement, Merchandising Support, Product Quality, Divisional Sales Support, Logistics, National Account Support, Food Safety, USF-Exclusive Brands and Business Friendliness.

Six companies were recognized for their superior performance in the following product categories:

  •     Center of the Plate – Pilgrim’s Pride
  •     Disposables – Pactiv Corporation
  •     Dry Groceries – Red Gold, Inc.
  •     Frozen Groceries – Windsor Foods
  •     Produce – Taylor Farms
  •     Dairy – Winona Foods

Additionally, the following companies were recognized for departmental excellence:

  •     Logistics – Georgia Pacific
  •     Food Safety and Quality Assurance – Alpha Baking Co., Inc.
  •     National Accounts – Icelandic USA
  •     Sustainability – Kraft Foods
  •     Business Friendliness – Wells Blue Bunny
  •     Exclusive Brands Partnership – Campbell’s Soup Company

Pilgrim’s Pride, Campbell’s Soup Company, Georgia Pacific, Icelandic USA, Windsor Foods and Kraft Foods also took top honors for their services in 2009. Other past winners include ACH / Tone’s, Reser’s Fine Foods, Michael Foods, Tyson Foods and Trident Seafoods.
