Thousands from the Washington, DC area will come together on Saturday, October 16 from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. in Leesburg, VA at John W. Tolbert, Jr. Elementary School for a Health & Fitness Expo to celebrate the 2nd annual International Fitness Day. International Fitness Day is the day dedicated to celebrating health and fitness around the world; and to raise money for organizations focused on fighting the growing obesity epidemic. The day will kick-off with a balloon release and a 1-mile fun-run or walk. Then attendees can participate in fun family fitness classes designed for all ages and fitness levels delivered by diamond sponsor Gold’s Gym and program partners HOPSports Inc., MASE Training, Kangoo Jumps, Celebrity Fitness Experts Sensei Guillermo Gomez (Martial Fusion), and Jessica Smith (Quick 10-Minute Solutions & Living in Thin); and Zumba Instructor Irene Saucedo.

The event boasts an additional 25+ sponsors including Under Armour, EA SPORTS Active, New Balance, RunningSkirts.com, Total Gym, Dick’s Sporting Goods and more. Sponsors will be exhibiting and providing attendees the opportunity to shop, pick-up freebies, win door prizes, and earn more prizes just for working out. Kids can take part in the classes, jump on 2 huge moon bounces, or get their faces painted. Everyone can meet radio personality, Jimmy Alexander, from Mix 107.3 FM and Former NFL Redskins Eddie Mason and Darnerien McCants.

To make International Fitness Day truly a world-wide event, many Gold’s Gyms around the world will be hosting open houses for their local communities; individuals, fitness trainers, and groups will be hosting their own local events at home or at their businesses leveraging the Host Toolkits available online.

Additionally, an Online Health & Fitness Expo will be held to bring the world together to hear from experts on the topics of health, nutrition and fitness during the week of October 12-15th. The online Expo features webinar sessions, as well as Twitter & Facebook parties. Webinar speakers are: Michelle Bouchard, President of HealthCorps; Dave Grotto, RD, Founder & President of Nutrition Housecall LLC and Author; Mark Macdonald, CEO of Venice Nutrition LLC; Bonnie Taub-Dix, Director and Owner of BTD Nutrition Consultants and Author of newly released book Read It Before You Eat It; Marc Lebert, President & Creator of Lebert Fitness; Wendy Kapsak-Reinhardt, MS, RD, Senior Director, Health and Wellness, International Food Information Council (IFIC) and IFIC Foundation; Gerard Recio, B. International Fitness Day was created in October 2009 by Dina Skulte, Founder and Owner of Fit for Kids’ Sake! LLC, and says: “As someone who has overcome severe weight issues, and turned my family’s lifestyle around to a healthy one, I want to share my passion and new found excitement for healthy living. Much of the world is suffering from obesity and being overweight, International Fitness Day is the day to help those people who need help to kick-start a healthy lifestyle and to become educated about how they can become healthier, as well as help those fitness fanatics gain cutting edge fitness information from experts in their industry. It is my dream and vision to get everyone on the seven continents recognizing and celebrating health and fitness on the same day each year and for raising money to help end obesity.”

Admission and participation for all events are free. A commemorative t-shirt is available for purchase online and at the Live Expo for $25 US. 50% of the t-shirt proceeds will be donated equally to American Diabetes Association and HealthCorps.
