Championing Hispanic Higher Education Success: Expanding Opportunities in Challenging Times

Mercy College’s pioneering Personalized Achievement Contract (PACT) was one of a select group of exemplary programs showcased at the 24th Annual Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) Conference, held September 18-20 in San Diego, CA.
The conference, “Championing Hispanic Higher Education Success: Expanding Opportunities in Challenging Times,” is a national forum on best practices in the education of Hispanics.
At the conference, Dr. Kimberly R. Cline, president of Mercy College, delivered a keynote address on PACT—Mercy College’s groundbreaking program that presents an innovative and sustainable solution to the critical national challenge of significantly increasing retention and timely graduation rates among low-income, minority and first-generation college students.
The program revolutionizes the college experience by providing an unsurpassed level of individualized support to participating students from enrollment through employment.
•PACT is an official Best Practice of the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) for career services and student retention.
•The American Council on Education shared PACT with the White House as a select example of innovation in higher education (January 2010).
•In 2009, the U.S. Department of Education funded $2.5 million to create a Graduate PACT program at Mercy College.
HACU is the national organization representing Hispanic-Serving Institutions. HACU was founded in 1986 with a founding membership of 18 institutions. Today, HACU represents 450 colleges and universities in the United States, Puerto Rico, Latin America, Spain and Portugal.
