We have followed stringent Non-GMO policies since 2007 and are committed to manufacturing only non-GMO verified products now and in the future.

R.W. Garcia Co., the first snack food manufacturer to receive Non-GMO verification, will be sponsoring the “Celebrate Your Right to Choose Non-GMO” Facebook application as part of their participation in the first ever national Non-GMO Month. The application will educate users about GMOs, the Non-GMO Project, and 17 select brands participating in the product verification program. It also will raise funds for the Project, a 501(c)(3) non-profit, with a new vendor sponsor each day donating $1 for every click from users. R.W. Garcia Co. will be sponsoring the application on Wednesday October 6th.

More than 580 natural food stores nationwide will take part in Non-GMO month, celebrating consumers’ right to choose food and products that do not contain genetically modified organisms (GMOs). Organized by the non-profit Non-GMO Project, the event coincides with the launch of the “Non-GMO Project Verified” seal on retail products.

Every R.W. Garcia product has been ”Non-GMO Project Verified.” All products are made from natural and organic ingredients and present a unique and clever twist to traditional tortilla chips and crackers. Items include Special Recipe tortilla chips, Gluten Free 5-Seed crackers, MixtBag® tortilla chips, and Classic tortilla chips.

“We are pleased to participate in the first ever Non-GMO Month,” said Margaret Garcia, VP of Sales and Marketing. “We have followed stringent Non-GMO policies since 2007 and are committed to manufacturing only non-GMO verified products now and in the future.”

The process of genetic modification, which takes place in a laboratory, typically merges DNA from different species, creating combinations of plant, animal, bacteria and viral genes that cannot occur in nature or in traditional crossbreeding. Virtually all commercial GMOs are bred to withstand direct application of herbicide and/or to produce an insecticide. None of the GMO traits currently on the market offer increase yield, drought tolerance, enhanced nutrition, or any other consumer benefit.
