EducationDegree.com, a comprehensive online directory of degree programs for current and aspiring teachers, announced the recipients today of the 2010 “Back to School” Education Scholarships. Scholarships of $2,500 each were awarded to one current teacher enrolling in a Master’s in Education program and one aspiring teacher enrolling in an Alternative Teacher Certification program.

Both scholarships were created to address the ever-growing need for highly qualified teachers and to promote continued study in the education field. The winners, chosen from a pool of many accomplished applicants, are Thomas W. Milaschewski of Beverly, Massachusetts, who is planning to study teaching and curriculum development at Boston University, and Jennifer N. Almond of Tucson, Arizona, who is planning to pursue an education degree at the University of Arizona.

A variety of factors, including academic performance and extracurricular involvement, contributed to the selection of the recipients. “We had many high-quality applicants,” said Joseph Deal, the founder of EducationDegree.com. “We are pleased to congratulate our winners, and we wish all of the applicants the best of luck in their studies and teaching careers.”

Scholarship America, the nation’s premier administrator of private scholarships, oversaw the selection process. Submission deadlines for the next round of applications for the “Back to School” Teaching Scholarships will begin in March 2011.
