From the mind of film set designer Michael Turner comes a new and truly original furniture design company, “The Turner Collective.” A conceptual design and production laboratory that strips each furniture piece down to it’s most essential, functional form .
Michael Turner, the sole creative mind behind this new series of minimalist furniture, was an integral part of the design team behind Gucci Guilty 2010 with Frank Miller, Australia, The Kite Runner, Moulin Rouge!, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Superman Returns, The Matrix Revolutions, The Matrix Reloaded, Anna and the King, and many more including Mission Impossible 4 (now in production).
The Australian Michael Turner has launched Series 1A ,a collection of minimalist objects, balancing objectivity, schematic clarity and inner logic, leading to a natural functionalism and geometric simplicity. Removing all representational imagery or similarity of subject, the objects are reduced to mathematics; rational, simple and clear, uncomplicated by personal, moral or philosophical boundaries.
The Turner Collective, an Australian production laboratory, is set to launch in Los Angeles, USA in late Fall of 2010.
The philosophy of The Turner Collectives’ Series 1A is essentially reductivist, stripping all unnecessary elements , to bring each piece back to it’s purest, most unique and functional form. The designs reflect Turner’s vision, “I wanted to reduce, reduce and reduce again the form, structure and materials of ‘ chair’ and still have the forms function in new unexpected beautiful ways .”
Intelligence in design, combined with experimentation and exploration of materials, is at the core of each Turner Collective piece. Defined by integrity of form and beauty of construction, The Turner Collective constructs each functional object bespoke to order, by local artisans, in its commitment to environmental parameters.
