Co-authors and friends Dr. Nanda Fischer, a Newport Beach resident, and Jutta Gamboa, an Irvine resident, have been active all their lives. In fact, Fischer, a 30-year cancer survivor, contributes much of her survival all these years to her active lifestyle.
In their new book, Active in Orange County: A Guide to Physical Activity & Exercise in Nature (f+b Publisher, ISBN: 3-980667, $19.95), the authors invite the reader to be active outdoors and at the same time enjoy the fascinating beauty of Orange County.
“Healthy people of all ages and skills levels can exercise with stunning views of the Pacific Ocean, hills and mountains,” said Fischer and Gamboa. “Since a great body as well as a great mind is more easily achieved through a variety of exercise, our book outlines lots of activities – hiking, biking, horseback riding, jogging, inline skating, and many more.”
“I recommend Active in Orange County, a comprehensive guide to outdoor exercise opportunities in Orange County. As a physician, I cannot stress enough the importance of regular exercise. With this book as a companion, locals and visitors alike can discover their favorite activities in the great nature of the OC," says Dr. Julian Whitaker, founder of Whitaker Wellness Institute Medical Clinic, Newport Beach, Calif. and editor of Health and Healing.
Some key takeaways from the book include:
- Maps for easy access to activity sites.
- Color photographs (over 300) illustrating beaches, trails and other activity sites to help facilitate a reader’s choice.
- Places where you can exercise for free.
- Cultural attractions for side trips.
- Listing of casual eateries for a snack or meal.
