More than 1 billion NOK (Norwegian Crowns, approx £100 million) has been invested in the Algarve at this Norwegian owned development, and the results have shown strong rates, high occupancy and five-star standards from the beginning – all countering current downward trends in Algarve Tourism.
The Bloomberg International Property Award winners were announced at a Gala Dinner hosted at the Park Lane Hotel in London’s Mayfair on September 24th, 2010. Dunas Douradas Beach Club were given three prizes, including the Best Property Development in Europe. The Beach Club now advances to take on the winners from Africa, America and Asia in the final round for the grand prize, “Best Property Development Worldwide”.
“With such strong competition, especially from France and Italy this year, it was a great honour to have been singled out as the winner in the overall best development category” said Managing Director, Evy Ougendal.
“During development we have had tremendous support from our Norwegian owners to keep standards exceptionally high throughout the process.”
Dunas Douradas Beach Club were also highly commended in another category for Best Interior Design this year and won last year’s competition in the categories of Best Architectural Design and Best Resort Apartments.
As the winner in the ‘Best Development’ Category this year however, the resort will go on to compete with the winners from across the seven continents for the World’s Best Development. Competing on a global scale will certainly bring on more competition, especially from Asia where the property development area has experienced a boom in recent years. But, says Ougendal, “We are hopeful that as the winner in Europe, we will represent these region’s developments from their best side.”
“This proves that good quality, good design and hospitality done right are still what makes this industry”, commented Iselin Skogland, Director of e-HotelServices (http://www.e-hotelservices.com) – a hospitality focused eMarketing and Web agency in London. “These awards and the economic performance of the Beach Club prove that even though the market is tough, people are willing to buy if you deliver a good product.”
The jury, comprised of selected Bloomberg executives, various experts from federations for property professionals, Google’s Property Market division, and various editors and professionals of Architectural institutions, carefully considered the detailed attention given to the resort planning, the architecture exteriors as well as interiors, facilities and services of each of the developments reviewed. Winning first prize therefore is considered an overall great achievement.
With its ideal location on the sunny Algarve coastline nestled between evergreen coniferous pine trees, right on one of the cleanest beaches in Europe, the winning resort development, prides itself on its own architectural accomplishments as well as its surroundings and climate.
The company behind the award-winning development is the Norwegian Property Development Company, Linstow, part of the AWilhelmsen AS Group – famous for their large ownership interests in Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines, and shipping among others.
