“2nd Annual Georgia Salute to Veterans Golf Classic” to Benefit Hire Heroes USA

“The current economic climate has resulted in a staggering unemployment rate that deeply affects military veterans, especially those who are injured,” said Brian Stann, Executive Director of Hire Heroes USA.

Players and sponsors are needed for the “2nd Annual Georgia Salute to Veterans Golf Classic” tournament that will benefit Hire Heroes USA, a nonprofit organization that provides Wounded Warrior Transition Assistance Workshops, job search assistance, and job placement services to unemployed military veterans. Shotgun start / tee off at 10 a.m. on Nov. 8 at The Country Club of Gwinnett located at 3254 Clubside View Court, Snellville, GA 30039. Registration begins at 9AM.

Proceeds will help Hire Heroes USA increase the capacity of its program, which includes workshops and training for resume writing, job search techniques, interview skills and networking opportunities for unemployed veterans.

“Even in a good economy, veterans are challenged to transition their skills to the private sector. Our challenge now is that our resources are under strain, and we need the public’s involvement and support to expand to help our nation’s heroes in their time of need,” said Brian Stann, Executive Director of Hire Heroes USA.

The unemployment rate for young Iraq and Afghanistan veterans in 2009 was above 20 percent - almost double the National average -which is a difficult proposition for newly separated veterans seeking work in a rough job market, according to Stann. The number of unemployed Iraq and Afghanistan veterans looking for work in 2009 was estimated at about 185,000, which was only 9,000 fewer than the number of troops deployed to those two combat operations.

More than 1.5 million service members have been deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan since 2001. An estimated one in four service members returns from Iraq or Afghanistan with a service-related disability.

Player registration and corporate sponsorship sign-up for the “2nd Annual Georgia Salute to Veterans Golf Classic” is open now through November 7th. Please register online: A silent auction will be held and a boxed lunch will be provided to all golfers, with a dinner reception to follow. If you cannot attend, you may sponsor a veteran to participate.

The corporate sponsorship deadline for submitting logos is Oct. 15th; however, new sponsorships will be accepted up until the event. Multiple opportunities are available for all sponsorship levels. Sponsorship details:
