“I am looking forward to applying my diverse non-profit experiences to The Polakoff Foundation’s fight against glaucoma. This disease strikes people without warning. The work of The Polakoff Foundation has been crucial in helping to get the word out and screen those who are at risk,” said Ramsey.
The Polakoff Foundation is an all-volunteer, 501 (c)(3) non-profit corporation. The efforts of the foundation concentrate on providing education and preventative screening resources to high-risk patients and those who are newly diagnosed. The Polakoff Foundation also sponsors organizations that are performing research in the quest for a glaucoma cure.
Glaucoma is a set of eye diseases that affects nearly 70 million people worldwide and three million people in the United States. Glaucoma is called “The Silent Thief” as it often steals the victim’s sight without any obvious warning signs. At present, sight lost to glaucoma can never be recovered. Glaucoma is the leading cause of preventable blindness in the United States.
