Bettcher Industries, a leading worldwide manufacturer and supplier of precision cutting tools for food processing, foodservice and industrial applications, announces that Horacio Maestretti has joined the company as International Sales Manager. In this position, Horacio Maestretti will be responsible for sales and market development functions for the company’s product line in Europe, including managing distributor relationships in various European countries.
Horacio Maestretti has a 23-year background in food processing technology and equipment. During this time, he has managed international sales, technical service and product development activities for four companies based in Europe and Latin America.
Prior to joining Bettcher Industries, Horacio Maestretti served as a European area manager for SigPack Systems AG, an integrated packaging systems company for dry food and pharmaceutical applications. He also served as the international sales director for Pasta Technologies, an Italian manufacturer of fresh pasta processing machinery, as well as a European and Latin American business units manager focusing on pasta and nutrients markets for Swiss-based Bühler AG, a global leader in food process engineering technologies and equipment.
A native of Switzerland, Horacio Maestretti holds a Masters of Science degree in industrial engineering from the Catholic University of Buenos Aires in Argentina. He is fluent in five languages (English, German, Italian, Spanish and Portuguese), enabling him to work easily with customers in Western and Eastern Europe.
The appointment of Horacio Maestretti underscores the expansion in Bettcher Industries’ product line and international activities of the company. In the European region, Bettcher has established new distributor partnerships over the past several years in Russia, the Balkans and the Baltic republics, while continuing to strengthen and deepen long-standing customer relationships in important EU countries such as Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom and Spain.
According to David Quebbemann, Vice President of Sales and Marketing, continued expansion into European markets underscores the importance of international business for Bettcher Industries. “Today, more than 50% of our sales revenues come from business outside the United States,” Quebbemann reported. “In the meat and poultry processing field, there is strong demand for our products as processors continue to look for ways to improve yields, productivity, and the safety and comfort of their workers,” he added.
An early pioneer in the industry, Bettcher Industries revolutionized meat trimming technology in the 1960s by introducing a rotating circular blade design that dramatically improved trim yields compared to the use of a conventional straight knife. In the years since, the company has continued to design enhanced equipment that further improves processing plants’ performance and bottom-line financial results, along with delivering significant safety and ergonomic benefits to workers.
“As just one example, our TrimVac™ Trimmer is a product innovation that protects plant workers as well as consumers against BSE and other potential contamination from spinal cord risk material,” Quebbemann noted.
