Jaeckle Fleischmann & Mugel, LLP is pleased to announce that John Norquist, President of the Congress for the New Urbanism, will serve as the key note presenter at the firm's annual WNY Economic & Land Development Forum. The Forum is scheduled the morning of Thursday, October 28th, 2010 at the Burchfield Penney Art Center. Mr. Norquist's work promoting New Urbanism as an alternative to sprawl draws on his experience as a big-city mayor and his prominent participation in national discussions on urban design and school reform. He served as the Mayor of Milwaukee from 1988-2004. Under his leadership, Milwaukee experienced a decline in poverty, saw a boom in new downtown housing, and became a leading center of education and welfare reform. Mr. Norquist oversaw a revision of the city's zoning code and reoriented development around walkable streets and public amenities such as the city's 3.1-mile Riverwalk, earning the distinction of "Public Official of the Year" from Governing magazine during his tenure. He has served as a member of the architecture and urban planning faculty at multiple universities and is the author of The Wealth of Cities.

This year's forum is also sponsored by GZA Geoenvironmental, Inc., Greenman-Pedersen, Inc. and the Buffalo Niagara Convention and Visitors Bureau. A panel discussion will follow Mr. Norquist's presentation.
