The National Association of Professional Surplus Lines Offices (NAPSLO) will recognize the top five graduates of the Associate in Surplus Lines Insurance (ASLI) program at its annual convention on October 13 in Atlanta. The Derek Hughes/NAPSLO Educational Foundation sponsors the awards, which will be presented by Joseph D. Timmons, CPCU, ASLI, president of the Foundation.
The academic award winners in ASLI’s 2009-2010 class are Linda Y. Shin, Alliant Insurance Services; Tricia J. McKee, Scottsdale Insurance Company; Joan B. Moore, United States Liability Insurance Group; William D. Thompson, National Specialty Underwriters, Inc.; and Janet L. Zeaiter, Markel Insurance Company.
Shin, the Distinguished Graduate, will receive $500 and a commemorative plaque. McKee, Moore, Thompson, and Zeaiter will each receive an Award for Academic Excellence, which includes an award of $250 and a commemorative plaque.
NAPSLO will also present ASLI diplomas to members of the 2009-2010 class of 142 new ASLI designees who attend the convention.
The Institutes developed the ASLI program for surplus lines professionals with support from NAPSLO and the Derek Hughes/NAPSLO Educational Foundation.
To earn the ASLI designation, one must complete a course on surplus lines insurance operations, a course on surplus lines insurance products, and two additional elective courses, chosen from a list of courses covering various insurance-related topics. The two electives are waived for those who have earned the RPLU designation granted by the Professional Liability Underwriting Society.
