Three attorneys and one paralegal from the Law Offices of James Scott Farrin volunteered to man the North Carolina Advocates for Justice’s (NCAJ) legal desk at the Fiesta del Pueblo on Sept. 11 and 12.

“Whenever I can, I work to provide knowledge to those who need it; to give them at least a starting point to navigate whatever their issue might be," said Personal Injury Attorney Rita Hanshumaker.

Three attorneys and one paralegal from the Law Offices of James Scott Farrin volunteered to man the North Carolina Advocates for Justice’s (NCAJ) legal desk at the Fiesta del Pueblo on Sept. 11 and 12.

(PRWEB) October 7, 2010 -- The bilingual volunteers included Attorney Rick Fleming, head of the firm’s Social Security Department and a North Carolina Board Certified Specialist in Social Security Disability Law; Attorneys Rita Hanshumaker and Crystal Young, both personal injury attorneys and Cali Schmitt, a bilingual litigation paralegal.

Each one volunteered to serve three hours, for a total of 12 hours of service. Throughout the festival, they counseled about 50 people, giving advice on issues ranging from family law and personal injury to NC Workers’ Comp and Social Security.

“I think knowledge is power and many Latinos, due to the language barrier or other issues, are often unaware of their basic rights,” Hanshumaker said. “Whenever I can, I work to provide knowledge to those who need it; to give them at least a starting point to navigate whatever their issue might be."

“My help may be as simple as providing someone with a referral number, or as involved as actually giving them a detailed consultation. But at any level, it gives me great personal satisfaction to volunteer my time to help those who might benefit from any legal information I have to share.”
