Distance learning pioneer ICS has launched the new CIPD Foundation level course, allowing HR professionals to bolster their skills by fitting in study time around their day jobs.
The qualification – Certificate in Human Resource Practice – is a brand new course from the CIPD, building on skills learned in the previous Certificate in Personnel Practice.
The updated course content offers the latest in HR management principles, and demonstrates practical and relevant knowledge of the processes and strategies involved in successful workforce management and development.
ICS will also launch the CIPD Foundation level Certificate in Learning and Development Practice, the Intermediate level Certificate in Human Resource Management as well as the Advanced Diploma in HR Management, later this year.
Keith Watson, a senior HR manager in the financial services industry, studied the CIPD Professional Qualification with ICS when he wanted to move from his role in general management, and has found it invaluable in his career.
He said: “When I was studying I had a full-time job and a young family, so distance learning provided me with the flexibility that a college course wouldn’t. The good thing from an employers’ perspective is that it shows a certain degree of self-discipline and commitment
“I found the support from a range of professional practitioners and academics to be extremely useful, it gave me the best of both the theoretical and the practical side of things.”
Keith is now a Fellow of the CIPD and was appointed as an ICS tutor in 2007. He has run ICS workshops ever since and has recently been appointed as an Internal Verifier for the new CIPD qualification.
Sally Pulvertaft, managing director of ICS, said: “A sound HR strategy can be one of the most effective ways of creating an efficient business, and the importance of that when facing up to the challenges of today’s tough market cannot be overstated.
“HR professionals who want to progress their careers by embarking on the HR Practice course can benefit from distance learning by fitting in study time around their day jobs, making best use of their own time.“
