The Telcare Disease Management System now includes a cellular-enabled glucose meter, blood pressure cuff, and weight scale.

Telcare, Inc., a top innovator in wireless healthcare solutions, expands its product offering by introducing a cellular-enabled blood pressure cuff and weight scale, two wireless devices that enable patients and healthcare providers to view the data obtained from these devices by logging into the MyTelcare.com website via their PCs and mobile phones. These advancements are in addition to Telcare's award winning glucose meter, Telcare BGM, which has just completed its FCC certification testing. The Telcare system is currently undergoing clinical trials, in preparation for submission to the FDA.

Utilizing all three devices' wireless capabilities does not require any additional transmission hub. Unlike other wireless health solutions that use wired or Bluetooth connections via a radio-enabled hub, Telcare's products send and receive data directly using the hardware's GPRS embedded chip. All clinical data are transmitted to Telserve, Telcare's proprietary, HIPAA compliant web server. From Telserve, data can be viewed by authorized parties, including the patient, caregiver, and family members and also relayed to electronic medical records and personal health records, including Google Health.

Dr. Jonathan Javitt, CEO of Telcare, explained that this trio of wireless health products is particularly important for addressing the growing epidemic of a gestational diabetes; a type of diabetes that occurs in pregnant women who have never had diabetes before. In this condition, sudden changes in weight and blood pressure may signal the onset of sudden and life-threatening complications. "With more than 200,000 cases of gestational diabetes and a one in five risk of emergency hospitalization for every woman who contracts the condition, it is critical to develop solutions that safeguard the health of mother and baby. We can dramatically decrease the chance of complications that simultaneously threaten two lives by creating a two-way link between patient and caregiver using wireless healthcare solutions."

Gestational diabetes is one of the most common complications of pregnancy. If not treated effectively, the disease can cause severe health problems for both mother and baby. Common risks of untreated gestational diabetes includes preterm labor, operative delivery that would otherwise not be needed, and an increased chance of developing Type 2 diabetes later in life. A particularly severe and life-threatening complication is the development of pregnancy-induced hypertension, which if unrecognized leads to catastrophic results. Physicians must monitor their patients with gestational diabetes very closely, especially as the pregnancy advances to ensure proper development of the fetus, steady blood glucose, blood pressure, and body weight.
Telcare's solutions facilitate ongoing physician/patient engagement by enabling pregnant women to communicate critical clinical information to their healthcare professionals simply and automatically.
